Haiti - Training : Certification of 24 foremen and 220 masons in earthquake-resistant construction
Friday in Cap-Haitien, to the Hostellerie Roi Henri Christophe, the National Institute for Professional Training (INFP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) proceeded with the awarding of certificates to 24 foremen and 220 masons of the Great North, which have successfully completed a 6-weeks training in earthquake-resistant construction.

Structured around construction standards and principles approved by the Ministry of Public Works, this training was provided to foremen between November and December 2014, and to the masons, from March to April 2015. It allowed those very involved professionals from several years in building constructions to acquire the certified professional competence to better intervene in construction sites and building more solid.

Speaking at this awarding of certificates, Marina Gourgue, the Secretary of State for Professional Training has estimated that today we can not speak of reconstruction of the country or sustainable development without taking into account the professional component "Training these professionals clearly shows that the Haitian State not only works to reduce risks in case of earthquake but it intends to guarantee investments present and future."

Renaud Voltaire, the Head of the "Earthquake Prevention Plan Great North," has invited mayors of the three departments to use these new skills while urging the populations to use this skilled workforce to realize their various works "We place great hope in these professionals with enhanced building capacities, and have the full guarantee that they will build houses that will withstand a possible earthquake in the north."

These training has received technical support from the Competence Center Reconstruction (CCR) and were carried out under component II of the Project Prevention Plan earthquake that provides training for the entire construction chain. In summer 2015, the engineers working on behalf of the municipalities of big cities of North will also be trained in earthquake-resistant construction.
