Haiti - Economy : Ambitious bilateral project on the border
Friday, Dominican entrepreneurs, members of the Economic Council binational Quisqueya, within the framework of diplomatic agreements between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, presented to the former Colombian President Andrés Pastrana and former Chilean President, Sebastian Pinera, the outline of an ambitious project that aims to promote investment and binational development in the border area with the participation of investors in Haiti.

Two entrepreneurs, Juan Vicini and Rafael Paz explained that the project, divided into two zones, will deploy along the Dominican-Haitian border in four areas: manufacturing and exporting; agricultural and agro-industrial production; renewable energy and tourism.

Vicini and Paz explained that Zone I, consisting of Ouanaminthe and Dajabón, will be an economic and social area of international free trade, where will be created a modern city with high levels of employment and sustainable urban communities.

The two businessmen have stressed that the Zone II will strengthen the agro-industrial production through the inclusion of hydrography of the Artibonite River, which will involve the implementation of a project to increase the irrigation capacity of the dam of the same name. Moreover, the river system, as part of this project, will be used for the transport of agricultural products to industrial areas.
