Haiti - Literature : Dany Laferrière received his Academician's sword
Tuesday, two days before his inauguration under the Dome of the French Academy, the Quebec writer of Haitian origin, Dany Laferrière received during a ceremony in the town hall of Paris, the traditional Academician sword from the hands of Academician Jean d'Ormesson. A sword created by the Haitian sculptor Patrick Vilaire for whom this sword is not a weapon but a feather.

"If I was born in Haiti, I was born writer in Quebec. If Port au Prince must arm me, it is to Montreal to dress me [...]" declared Dany Lafferière while receiving his Academician sword.

Jean d'Ormesson addressing Dany declared "I had for you a kind of friendship thunderbolt. I really like that are represented at the academy every nuance of the literary spectrum.
