Haiti - Social : The Dominican authorities are assisting cane cutters...
Thursday morning, the trade unionist Jesús Núñez, spokesperson of Cañeros and Coordinator of the Union of sugarcane workers in the bateyesn had a fruitful meeting with Luis Fernandez, Vice Minister of the Interior and Police on migration issues and the Director of Immigration, Washington González in order to find a special solution for the case of Haitian workers, pensioners of the cane.

This meeting was for Jesús Núñez the last chance, at 5 days of the close of registration at the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE) to unblock the situation of this category of workers, who are unable to enroll in the regulation plan, because for many months (6 months to 1 year) they wait in vain for the government of Haiti, keeps its promises and provide the identification document requested, essential for registration.

Following this meeting, the two Dominican officials said retired persons eligible at PNRE, whether they are pensioners by Social Security or through the Ministry of Finance, will receive a document allowing them to regularize their situation in the country.

Recall that in early June the cane cutters angry, went front to the Embassy of Haiti in Santo Domingo http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14074-haiti-social-sugarcane-cutters-angry-against-haiti.html and in front of Juan Pablo Duarte building, where is located the Ministry of Interior and Police, to warn that the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners will fail, because the Haitian authorities are unable to provide them with the documents they need.
