Haiti - Economy : Better channeling investments from the diaspora... 16/06/2015 11:11:15 In his opening speech, the Head of Government expressed confidence that the investment from the diaspora is an opportunity of present and future in the financing of national development. He believes that the ideas that come out of these exchanges will allow more than one to generate innovative economic initiatives to better channel savings from the diaspora to local businesses. After the official inauguration by Prime Minister Paul is the former Bolivian President Jorge Fernando Quiroga who opened the conference with the participation of several foreign high-level speakers, including representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC, of George Washington University, Heineken Americas, Western Union Caribbean and the Inter American Development Bank (IDB). Wilson Laleau, the Minister of Finance, hosted the first working lunch on the theme of development finance in emerging markets. Just after a panel on what motivates diaspora investments, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries presented the Tourism Master Plan for Haiti, including private sector investment. AmCham Haiti wished to add to this annual conference one day o discuss the opportunities of "Doing Business in Haiti." Tuesday 17, the forum "Doing Business in Haiti" will provide an opportunity to several personalities to get together in a succession of panels. "The programming of the 3rd day of work reflects our intention to strengthen the institutional relations between the Haitian private sector and the diaspora. We will start with some background information of the Haitian economy led by economist Kesner Pharel, then we will progress more in detail on strategies and opportunities for agribusiness and tourism. We will close by proposing the establishment of a real dialogue on how best to move forward together," explained Régine René Labrousse, President of the Organizing Committee of the conference. To encourage opportunities to integrate and interact with a network of nearly 200 business leaders from the United States, the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica), Brazil and other countries in the region, the "Business-to-Business Meetings" (B2Bs) will be held on 16 and 17 June. A lunch "A taste of Haiti" is also planned at the restaurant of Musée du Panthéon National (MUPANAH) which will bring together the presidents of AmCham in the region around the specialties of our country. An exhibition of local products will be held throughout the event in order to open business opportunities with the region. Moreover, AmCham organized several tour ahead of the conference to give foreign visitors a glimpse of tourist and historical heritage, as well as on the business opportunities.
