Haiti - Training : Launch of Project Pole Innovation of Great North
The Reflection and Action Group for a New Haiti (GRAHN World) announced last week at the Montreal Polytechnique the launching of its ambitious project "Pole Innovation of Great North" (PIGraN), to be located in Haiti in Génipailler (Milot).

After five years in reflection and concrete actions on the twelve fundamental challenges which, according to its analysis, hinder the development of Haiti, the GRAHN laid the foundations for a sustainable development strategy to overcome two of these challenges which seem to it the most important, namely the chronic under-education of the population and the inability to create wealth. The strategy focuses on a holistic vision of the Haitian education system integrating into a coherent whole all educational levels and on building relationships between people and opportunities to enhance the collective confidence, reduce poverty, create wealth for all and realize the dream of a better future for the whole nation.

The core of this Pole will be the City of Knowledge consists of four sectors. One will find in the heart of the city a higher education institution "Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies of Haiti" (ISTEAH), which is in pilot operation for 2 years in 3 cities of Haiti (in physical mode and videoconferencing) with the voluntary contribution of more than 140 teachers from three continents.

By its vocation to train future leaders of the country, this will contribute to the development of skills and expertise for the benefit of a network of independent companies and networks of educational institutions at all levels : preschool, primary, secondary, vocational and technical training, university.

For this project, a participatory funding is envisaged, based on citizen engagement and solidarity among peoples, through campaigns that will be made in the different countries where the GRAHN operates. The Canadian fundraising campaign, to which the Haitian from interior and exterior as well as the Friends of Haiti are invited to participate, is conducted in collaboration with the Quebec-Haiti Foundation for Universal Schooling Quality (QHASUQ), it is the first phase of the development of the City of Knowledge. It aims to collect a total of $500,000 over a two year period for the construction of the first two buildings of the school sector, ie a childcare center (CPE) and a primary school, the cornerstones of the formation of a new type of citizen; a citizen blossomed and ready to play its role in the development of his country.

These two institutions will be referral centers or schools-laboratories for school networks in the region, supported by training programs in educational science offered by ISTEAH. Several influential figures from academia, government and business involved in this project, are unanimous in recognizing its structuring character, in the best sense of the term, and are showing exemplary solidarity in their generosity.
