Haiti - Politic : Mayor of Montreal asks Canada to condemn DR
Reacting to the next repatriation, by the Dominican Republic, of hundreds of thousands of persons of Haitian origin whose a part is born in the Dominican Republic, Denis Coderre, the Mayor of Montreal said in a note "As Mayor of Montreal, I am outraged by the illegal and immoral dispossession and potential deportation of hundreds of thousands of Haitian origin born in the Dominican Republic, among them many children.

Montreal has a long history of mobilization of its citizens face of grave injustice, particularly in the fight against apartheid in South Africa. My administration has made a priority of Living together and I ask the Canadian government to condemn the administrative processes, legislative and legal in the Dominican Republic that have for consequences to put directly at risk, in violation of international law, the rights of hundreds of thousands of people by placing them at great risk of being deported arbitrarily.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has targeted the potentially devastating consequences of these actions. As mayor of Montreal, a diverse and inclusive city for so many immigrants, I reaffirm our commitment to human rights and call for an immediate resolution, just and humane of that serious escalation, in accordance with the law International. This request reflects the position of many regional and international organizations that have expressed the urgency of the situation and their desire to provide the necessary assistance and expertise."
