Green, world-renowned specialist in neurosurgery, in the presence of US ambassadors and of Mexico, members of the government, the business sector personalities and members of the local and international medical community, participated in the laying of the first stone of the National Critical Care and Trauma Complex of international standard.

Today in the country, there is no hospital with the capacity to provide intensive care resulting from injury of any kind which are the leading cause of death in hospitals in Haiti. According to officials of the project, Drs Jerry and Marlon Bitar and U.S. Dr Barth Green, with this ultra modern specialized center, trauma victims, cardiac, those victims of cerebral vascular accidents, severe burns among others, will no longer need to wait for the arrival of an air ambulance to save their lives. The most complex trauma, can now receive appropriate care in Haiti.

This intensive care and trauma Complex will also train health professionals. It will house a national education and training center for young health professionals and doctors and specialists can improve their capabilities. Students of medical schools and nurses of Haiti, will also be able, to make in it their first steps.

"[...] Countries that invest in health tend to have a higher human development index. My commitment to health goes beyond a position, is a citizen choice based on a concern for well-being for future generations," said Sophia Martelly.

Note that this project has the support of the Medishare Association, the Ministry of Health and the Hospital Bernard Mevs through the company Health solidarity. As for the costs of this project, it is premature to state at this stage, an estimated, according to officials.
