Haiti - Security : Training of 30 engineers in diagnosis and structural reinforcement techniques
In its concern to train all the Great North building chain, to prepare the region to face a possible earthquake, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the Project Earthquake Prevention Plan North, offers an important diagnostic and technical training to strengthen structures to thirty 30 engineers (attached to town halls, departmental directorates including the Ministry of Public Works and working for consultancies) of departments of North, Northeast and Northwest.

This training, that follows those of 24 foremen and 220 masons, spread over 5 days, from July 6 to 10, 2015, and incorporates the latest evaluation of infrastructure and strengthening techniques recommended by the Ministry of Public Works and recognized internationally. It has the following objectives to provide participants the keys to identify vulnerabilities, the main steps of an evaluation calculation of the strength capacity, the technical to enhance a building built at a time when the seismic standards were not in force.

The engineer Soucelyn Ferdinand, Technical Coordinator of the project for the North, believes that this training complements the efforts of the Haitian State to improve the functioning in the north of the construction sector and preserve life during inevitable cataclysms "It is clear that today in the context of the seismic threat we must not only build differently but being able to strengthen the already existing buildings," said the engineer.

Learn more about the "Earthquake Prevention Plan North":
Launched in March 2012 by the Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities, the Project "Earthquake Prevention Plan North" has four components, namely: micro-zoning, the training of the construction chain, the public awareness on compliance with anti-seismic building standards, and inventory and evaluation of public buildings. The Plan is funded by the Haiti Reconstruction Fund to the tune of 9.9 million US dollars.
