Haiti - Training : 1st Haitian Olympiads of construction trades 07/07/2015 10:37:33 Over 50 of the best students, apprentices and technicians, accompanied by coaches, experts and delegates and leaders of industry and government representatives, representatives of more than a dozen of the best training centers in Haiti, will challenge their knowledge in four separate competitions: masonry, electricity (including renewable and solar energy), plumbing and carpentry. Participants in the Olympiads will be invited to meet with employers and recruiters of local and international firms, as well as representatives of industry associations, trade unions, training institutions and government partners. Unique in its kind, this competition will enable vocational training centers to demonstrate the quality of their practices in the skilled trades sector and their ability to respond to market demands. It will also enable Haitian youth learning a skilled trade or technology, to assess their skills according to rigorous industry standards and compete with peers in the hopes of being named as the best in their field. "Make sure you have the right people with the right skills is a key factor in the success of projects in the construction industry in Haiti," said Patrice Gaétan, Expert in development of the work at Project LEVE (Local Enterprise and Value Chain Enhancement) "New opportunities exist in the construction sector. Our companies will want not only skilled labor but professional and diligent. Haitian Olympiads of construction trades represent an innovative way to bring them into contact with young graduates and LEVE is proud to give its support to its local Haitian partners to promote the quality of our workforce." "We are proud to partner with the LEVE project (funded by USAID) and the Committee of MATCON of the AmCham to launch these first Haitian Olympiads," declared Hans Garoute, President of the Chamber of Trades and Crafts Haitien (CMAH) "This opportunity will allow us to promote skilled trades to young people, by indicating them that these businesses offer them extraordinary possibilities. Together we can inspire more young people to choose a rewarding career in the skilled trades."
