Haiti - Senegal : The University Gaston Berger receives 25 Haitian students
17 boys and 8 girls were welcomed to Université Gaston Berger (UGB) of Saint-Louis by Lamine Faye, Minister Counsellor at the Presidency in charge of the diaspora, Bamba Ndiaye, Minister Counsellor to the Presidency charge of religious affairs, Colonel Samba Fall, administrative authorities, academics and many students.

Mary Rector Teuw Niane has welcomed the Haitian students, recalled the role played by Saint-Louis, source of the intelligentsia throughout francophone Africa "you are at home to UGB" noting that his institution remains an "African universities because they are Africans who built [...] You are now at a university where you have to work hard, because it is the spirit here and our duty [...] I hope, that when you will return to Haiti, you do for your country, the first great black country developed through the knowledge that Senegal and LSU will strive to give you."

Karim Cisse, director of "Centre Tégional des Oeuvres Universitaires de Saint-Louis" (CROUS), expressed his pride to host the Haitian students in the campus social. "This is a great symbol that your arrival transmits to all generations, humanity and Africa". In addition, Mr Cisse has revealed that a guide to social life on campus will be issued, stating that the Studentenwerk, outside of housing, will take care of their food and their medical care. The Director of the CROUS welcomed the Senegalese students have asked the administration to deal with Haitian students for 5 days as part of a socialization, adding "The campus social will be your primary sponsor. He will take care of all the benefits that could make your stay pleasant".

University Gaston Berger of Saint-Louis is now twenty years of operation. In 1974 took place the laying of the cornerstone by President Leopold Sedar Senghor in the company of Congolese President of the time Mariem Ngouabi. In 1990 it opened its doors welcoming some 600 students. She now has about 5,000. The UGB has an area of 240 hectares and is located about 12 km from the city of St. Louis, former capital of the AOF and former capital of Senegal, dedicated World Heritage of Humanity. It is attached to the rural community of Gandon, a village south of St. Louis on axis Saint-Louis - Louga. The university area includes about 5,000 people consisting of faculty (138), technical and administrative staff (200), students (about 5.000 with a target of 10,000 within 5 years).
