Haiti - Economy : Strong increase in inflation in June
Amounted to 234.6 in June against 230.2 in May 2015, the Index of Consumer Prices (Base 100 in August 2004) showed a strong monthly growth rate of 1.9% and 8% yoy, against 0.8% and 6.6% the previous month.

The indices that have contributed most to the monthly increase include: "Food, drinks and tobacco" (+ 2.3%), "Clothing and fabrics, footwear" (+ 2.6%), "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" (+ 1.6%), Health (+ 1.9%) and "Other Goods and Services" (+ 2.9%).

Note that the increase in the index "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" which represents over 50% of the household budget comes particularly of rice prices (+ 1.3%), ground corn and grain (+ 0.8%) of wheat flour (1.8%) of corn flakes (+ 1.4%), bread (1.6%) of beef (+ 2.7%), the pork (+ 1.8%), of goat meat (+ 2.0%), poultry (+ 3.5%), fresh fish (+ 3.0%), edible oil (+ 1.8%), bananas (+ 4.3%), green peas (+ 1.5%), dry peas (+ 6.0%), yams (+4.7 %), the malanga (+ 4.1%), of potatoes (+ 5.0%) and potatoes (+ 4.8%), the real tree (+ 6.3%), lemon (+ 2.3%), orange (3.7%) and chadèque (+ 5.0%).

The increase observed in the index of "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" is mainly due to the increase in products such as tissues (+ 4.3%), the costume, universal jacket (+ 2.8%), pants for men (+ 3.1%), dress (+ 3.0%), clothing manufacturing (+ 2.3%), and tennis shoes (+ 2.9%) and sandals (+ 3.4%).

The upward trend of the index "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" stands exclusively to the increase in housing rent (+ 2.0%), propane gas (+ 0.9%) and charcoal (+ 2.3%).

The raising of level of the index "Planning, Equipment and Housing Maintenance" is mainly due to the increase in products such as: living room furniture (+ 2.1%), the dining room (+ 2.6%), the bed (+ 3.2%), the mattress (+ 5.3%), bed linen (+ 2.5%), curtains (+ 2.6%), the web (+ 1.2%), refrigerator (+ 2.2%), the insecticide (+ 4.0%) and disinfectant (+ 9.4%).

At the origin of the price increases of the "Health" function are the price increases for prescription glasses (+ 1.9%), fees paid to doctors (+ 3.1%) and hospital costs (+ 2.6%).

As for the increase in the index "Other Goods and Services" it is resulting mainly from rising prices : of shampoo (+ 4.7%), perfume, toilet water (+ 7.1%), toilet powder (+ 5.7%) and other hair care products (+ 4.8%).

Metropolitan Area: +2.0% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)
Rest West: +1.8% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)
North: +1.6% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)
South: +1.9% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)
Transversal: +1.8% (including departments of Centre and Artibonite)
