Haiti - Elections : 5,848,000 voters on the general electoral roll
Monday at the weekly press conference at the Ministry of Communication, Jean-Baptiste Saint-Cyr, General Director of the National Identification Office (ONI), wanted to dispel any doubt on the delivery of National Identification Cards (CIN) to enable citizens to elect their representatives, claiming that deliveries are underway... In order to effectively meet demand, he said that 209 offices were added to the 140 already installed in communal sections.

He revealed that the General Electoral Roll (Liste Electorale Générale - LEG), sent to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has 5,848,000 registered voters, an increase of just over one million voters compared to the last elections.

Recalling that the LEG had already been forwarded to the CEP, he recalled that the names of holders of CIN, issued after the closing date of the electoral register (11 May 2015), are not included in the LEG and can not vote, even if they are in possession of their card.

Concerning the identification of Haitians in the Dominican Republic, Jean-Baptiste Saint-Cyr, said that the ONI was not indifferent to the situation of repatriations, claiming that more than 22,000 cards had been delivered to the fellow on the other side island under the Identification and Documentation Program of Haitian immigrants (PIDIH). No little more than 15,000 according Ambassador Supplice and this since the establishment of PIDIH in July 2014...

In addition, he stated that people "repatriated will also have their national identification card, provided they are recognized as haitianby a competent entity [?]"...

Furthermore, he indicated that the ONI, worked on the identification of Haitian children from birth. He explained that every newborn will have a permanent number it can use all its life in the country, adding that talks were underway with international partners such as the Inter-American Development Bank and Canada to complete this project.
