Haiti - Politic : Migration crisis, the Vatican as mediator?
Friday in Georgetown (Guyana), Irwin LaRocque, Secretary General of CARICOM, received the credentials of the first Ambassador of the Holy See to CARICOM, Archbishop Nicola Girasoli, Apostolic Nuncio to the Vatican, who reiterated the Holy See's commitment to work closely with CARICOM to contribute to the welfare of the Caribbean.

Irwin LaRocque did not fail to discuss with the new ambassador, the situation of Haitian descendants in the Dominican Republic which risks being repatriated to Haiti in the coming weeks and months as many of them have no cultural, social or linguistic tie with Haiti.

At the end of this accreditation ceremony, the Secretary LaRocque said he was convinced that the Vatican could play an important role in the migration crisis between Haiti and the Dominican Republic...

Recall that Pope Francis has recently intervened with the Dominican bishops, for they show openness, charity and compassion with the Haitian migrants in difficulty, as several of them have taken public positions very firm, against illegal migration of Haitians and advocated strict enforcement of immigration laws for all, in the Dominican territory.
