Haiti - Politic : Haiti has managed to identify only 1,351 «cañeros» in DR

Ms. Miouseming Célestin Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Haiti in Dominican Republic, revealed that of 4,000 Haitian immigrants "cañeros" (sugar cane workers), who requested their birth certificates, 1,351 have been identified as such and of this number, 1,039 documents are ready to be delivered to recipients.
She said that many of these people, claimed they did not have documents, "but we were able to verify that this was not true, because we found in the archives in Haiti several documents about these people" . Furthermore Ms. Célestin has not ruled out that in the more than 15,000 identity documents which are currently in the process of being delivered, there are some who are of "cañeros" but registered under another condition or office.
Finally Ms. Célestin explained that many of the "cañeros" had asked for documents from 24 April, while the deadline was not enough to deliver the documentation before June 17, 2015, date of the end of the National Plan of Regularisation of Foreigners (PNRE).
