Haiti - Culture : Some news of CARIFESTA XII... 23/08/2015 10:55:05 Friday nearly 22 delegations marched through the streets of the capital to reach the Kiosk Occyde Jeanty (Champ de Mars), where the scenery was indeed at the rendezvous to begin the largest cultural event in the Caribbean (Carifesta XII) . In the presence of President Michel Martelly, the Secretary General of CARICOM Irwin Laroque and several ministers, a pleiad of local and foreign artists have lifted the curtain with performance at the height of the event. The other 9 days will take place simultaneously in 5 cities planned: Jacmel, Port-au-Prince, Les Cayes, Gonaives and Cap-Haitien. Frisch, the Director General of MUPANAH, inaugurated the exhibition "Sharing Memory" in the presence of members of the official delegation of the CARICOM led by its Secretary General Irwin Larocque, accompanied by his assistant Dr. Douglas Slater. Designed as part of the Caribbean Festival of Arts (Carifesta XII Haiti 2015), this exhibition tells the extraordinary story of Haiti in the Caribbean context. A history of revolutionary struggles that led to the collapse of the colonial system of slavery in Haiti and other Caribbean islands. This exhibition also opens on the creolism as intercultural factor from the outstanding episodes in the history of humanity, like conquest, colonization, the slave trade and slavery, resistance and revolts. The Grand Market it is more than 100 craft exhibitors; over 25 restaurants working all day; a fashion scene and a music stage for artistic performances every night from 6:00 pm. Let's recall that the Market occupies the streets Magny, Saint Honoré , Magloire Ambroise, Capois and Légitime. A key rendezvous of culture, gastronomy, fashion and crafts...
