Haiti - Literature : Emmelie Prophète finalist of «Prix des 5 Continents»
Among the 130 works competing in the 14th edition of the "Prix des 5 Continents" of the Francophonie, which annually recognizes a narrative fictional text written in French, the representatives of the five reading committees (the Association Passa Porta of the Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles, the Association of Writers of Senegal, the Association of Prix young French-speaking writer from France, the Collective of writers of Lanaudière of Quebec and the Association Culture elongo of Congo) selected 10 works finalists representing 10 countries :

List of Finalists :

  • "Le Bout du Monde est une fenêtre" by Emmelie Prophète (Haiti) to the editions Mémoire d'encrier (Canada-Québec) ;
  • "Congo Inc : Le testament de Bismarck" by In Koli Jean Bofane (RDC) to the editions Actes Sud (France) ;
  • "Danser les ombres" by Laurent Gaude (France) to the editions Actes Sud (France) ;
  • "L'Inondation" by Raluca Antonescu (Romania-Switzerland) to the editions La Baconnière (Switzerland) ;
  • "Les Fils du jour" by Yahia Belaskri (Algeria) to the editions Vents d'Ailleurs (France) ;
  • "Le Tao du tagueur" by Serge Ouaknine (Canada-Québec) to the editions XYZ (Canada-Québec) ;
  • "Terre ceinte" by Mohamed Mbougar Sarr (Senegal) to the editions Présence Africaine (France) ;
  • "Traité de peaux" by Catherine Harton (Canada-Québec) to the Editions Marchand de feuilles (Canada-Québec) ;
  • "La Trinité bantoue" by Max Lobe (Cameroun) to the editions Zoe (Switzerland) ;
  • "Le Voyage d'Octavio" by Miguel Bonnefoy (Venezuela-France) to the Editions Rivages (France).

In the opinion of the committees, "the 2015 selection is in tune with reality, an often disturbing reality, treated with boldness, intelligence and sensitivity."

The international jury, chaired by Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio (Mauritius) will select the winner in the third week of November 2015 in Bamako, where it will meet prior to the adward delivery ceremony.

With an amount of 10,000 euros, the "Prix des 5 Continents" was created by La Francophonie in 2001. It enables to highlight literary talent reflecting the expression of cultural and editorial diversity in French on the five continents and to promote them internationally.

The International Organization of the Francophonie will promote the winner on the literary scene until the announcement of the next winner.

Lise Bissonnette (Canada-Quebec), Ananda Devi (Mauritius), Hubert Haddad (France-Tunisia), Monique Ilboudo (Burkina Faso), Paula Jacques (France-Egypt), Vénus Khoury-Ghata (Lebanon), Pascale Kramer (Switzerland), René de Obaldia of the French Academy (Hong Kong), Lyonel Trouillot (Haiti) and Kamel Daoud, winner of 2014.
