Haiti - Economy : Inauguration of the EPS plant VeerHouse Voda
After 3 years of activity in Haiti, Haiti Veerhouse Voda opened a production plant of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) panel in Drouillard (West Department). This material is the main component (developed for the first time in the Netherlands) and used for the construction of all types of housing and buildings. Resistant to earthquakes, major climatic hazards, floods and fire, the EPS reduces the cost of construction (without the use of wood regardless of the number of floors) its waste are 100% recyclable and duration above 70 years of life.

Present in Haiti since 2012, the company specializes in sustainable construction from EPS elements and has already completed 22 projects. Until summer 2015, materials were designed abroad and imported to be assembled in Haiti. Now the plant of Drouillard, not only allow on-site production of polystyrene foam, its transformation into panels, all the preparation before construction, but also its recycling "Our local production and the use of this construction system should create more 2,000 direct and indirect jobs. The plant will supply the local market and we aim to widely disseminate this system allowing reliable and economical construction. "We are now able to provide EPS for various construction projects, as well as other innovative products from this material," said Brendon Brewster, CEO of Veerhouse Voda



This modern and environmental friendly technique (not only recyclable, but also allowing for significant energy savings), convinced the international institutional investors such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), USAID, FMO (Bank Dutch development), PADF and the fund Leopard Capital (IDB, IFC, FMO). The 2014 Enterprise Innovation Challenge Award (EICF) received from Compete Caribbean will allow Veerhouse Voda to improve its infrastructure development, increase employment opportunities and offer new options in Haiti and the Caribbean.
