Haiti - Economy : Evolution of economic indicators in the 3rd fiscal quarter 20/09/2015 10:06:48 Industry : Increase of 7.6% in the index of industrial production YoY and 1.3% from the previous quarter. This quarterly increase is the result of a contrasted evolution of different industries. Indeed, textile, food products increased by 8.3% and 3.3% respectively; by cons, wood manufacturing, publishing and printing (-3.0%) and chemical manufacturing (-3.9%), non-metallic mineral products (-5.8%) and basic metal manufacturing works (-5.0 %) showed a downward trend. Energy : Increase by 1.4% yoy in the index of production of electrical energy, and 2.9% compared the prior quarter. This quarterly change was due to the increase (50.6%) of hydroelectric generation, against a fall in thermal production 0.1%. The invoiced consumption, meanwhile, reflected the same upward trend (11.6%) from the previous quarter. Construction : Decreased 4.4% of the activity construction index yoy and 3.3% from the prior quarter. The index of the number of Employee is also down 4.6% from the first quarter. This negative trend for this quarter is consistent with the observed decrease in the amount of imported cement. Internal trade : Increase of 7.6% of the index of business activity yoy and 4.4% from the previous quarter. These positive results are due to a good performance of certain sub-industries such as: Automotive Retail (5.1%), wholesale food products (1.4%), articles and household equipment devices (19.5 %) and retail sale in specialized stores (17.5%). Consumer prices : Increase by 7.0% of the consumer price index yoy and 2.1% compared to the past quarter. These higher inflation resulted mainly from the increase in consumer indices: housing (+ 1.6%), furniture (+ 1.7%), Health (+ 2.0%), food (+ 2.6%) and clothing (+ 3.3%). Moreover, the price index of agricultural products, meanwhile, increased by 8.8% yoy and 3.3% compared to last quarter. Foreign trade : Decline in the index of the average value of imports by 9.4% yoy and 2.6% compared to last quarter. For its part, the index of total value has declined by 6.2% yoy but increased by 4.3% compared to the previous quarter; thus causing an increase in the quantum of 3.6% yoy and 7.1% in the quarter.
