Haiti - Music : Venezuela trains more than 200 young Haitians
For more than 20 days the teachers of "System of Orchestras and Juvenile and Child Choirs" of the Venezuela, have offered courses for both young people and teachers of Haiti to create the first center in the Capital, Port-au-Prince. More than 200 young Haitians have learned and have shown interest in learning to play instruments, particularly instruments that do not abound on the island, like the oboe and bassoon.

This project is part of the "Misión El Sistema Haití" launched in February 2013, is a joint initiative between the Haitian State (under the patronage of President Martelly) and Venezuela, through the Society Petion Bolivar and musical Foundation Simón Bolívar, that aims the establishment of a system of orchestras and choirs in Haiti and bring the educational model of the values created by the teacher and Venezuelan musician Jose Antonio Abreu. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-7788-haiti-music-launching-of-the-system-of-orchestras-and-choirs-juvenile-and-infantile-of-haiti.html

Andrés González, Director of the "Misión El Sistema Haití" emphasized "Just arrived in Haiti, we felt at home. We know the immense musical wealth of the country and could not wait to share the best of the experience that the system has accumulated for 40 years."

Jean Michel Lapin, the Director General of the Ministry of Culture declared "This is a project that should always be protected by the State and the Government of Haiti to ensure its sustainable development. We have long waited teachers 'El Sistema' and we will do what we have to do to grow this program in Haiti."

Note that the "System of Orchestras and Juvenile and Child Choirs" is in operation since 1975 in more than 40 countries in Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
