Haiti - Tourism : Things are moving everywhere ! 10/10/2015 11:54:10 Thursday, a cocktail was given to the Gardens of the Museum of Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH). Stéphanie Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) and Prime Minister Evans Paul, took the opportunity to recall the great advances in the sector the last four years. In summary, Haiti is repositioning itself as a destination in the Caribbean and the Government reiterates its willingness to stay the course of sustainable development through tourism. Emphasis was placed on the Community tourism as one of the main axes of the strategy of MTIC towards a general and participatory integration of the population at all levels of the tourism chain and also as the primary beneficiaries of direct benefits. "The tourism sector accounts for 10% of global GDP and 6% of world exports! Tourism at home, it is 345 million dollars of direct investment, more than 10,000 jobs and a 40% increase in the number of hotel rooms," stressed on this occasion Minister Villedrouin. The Haitian Art Museum under renovation The Haitian Art Museum located on the street Légitime (Champ-de-Mars) is the subject currently of major rehabilitation work after being severely damaged in the earthquake of January 2010. Ms. Dithny Joan Raton, the Minister of Culture, together with the Interim Executive Agent of Port-au-Prince, Gérald Pierre Cadet, went to the scene earlier this week to monitor progress. She also met with various officials about the premises and the building environment. Establishment of a Craft Market Management Committee of Cap Haitien On Thursday, the North Regional Office of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) held an important meeting with in particular, representatives of the Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of Culture, the Mayor of Cap-Haitien, the organization of the North Destination (OGD North) and the Craft Market. The objective was to decide on the establishment of an inter-institutional Committee for the Management of the Craft Market, that the North Bureau of MTIC wants to deliver soon to handicrafts merchants...
