Haiti - Economy : 10 Chinese entrepreneurs interested to invest in Haiti
The 9th summit China-Latin America and Caribbean (LAC CHINA) was held at the Palace of Communication and Culture of Guadalajara, Mexico (13-15 October 2015), with over 2,000 participants including nearly 1,500 entrepreneurs and Chinese investors, the direct benefits to companies present at this major event are estimated at some $80 million, mainly in the purchase and sale of products.

On the Haitian side, investors and traders have not made the trip. However, several state institutions involved in investment have deployed their efforts to attract potential investors.

While the Directorate of Free Zones of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (DZF) has increased its contacts with Chinese operators in the sector, the National Society of Industrial Parks (SONAPI) won at least 10 promises of Chinese entrepreneurs which should soon visit the parks of the Society in Haiti for investments, including in the textile and footwear sectors.

The stand of the Investment Facilitation Center (CFI) was the meeting point of the Haitian delegation for the spot appointments, the dissemination of information on the business climate in Haiti and support provided to entrepreneurs. For Keren Marcellus and Marcus Boereau, representatives of the CFI, "Lhe experience of CHINALAC proved clearly promising for foreign direct investment in Haiti. The Chinese are very interested to the country, especially in infrastructure construction, bio agriculture and textile manufacturing an interest reinforced for this last sector by the advantages of the HOPE act."

Guy Lamothe, Ambassador of Haiti in Mexico, was one of the keynote speakers at the forum panel "Focus on production capacity and cooperation to take advantage of opportunities: New trends for investment." He hoped that Haiti could continue to diversify its sources of funding by taking advantage of funds from the recent Bank of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), of which China is one of the main founders. He also put the emphasis on the three sectors of the real economy in Haiti: agricultural production for export, the
Banana Project of Trou-du-Nord (AGRITRANS), the sector of textile manufacturing with over 56% of the inputs are from China, and investment in tourist sites.

Along with two Chinese entrepreneurs, whose one of them already done business with Haiti, Ambassador Lamothe concluded his speech by entrusting Chinese present that Haiti had already signed several agreements with a Chinese company, the "National Automation Control System Corporation" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11721-haiti-reconstruction-a-chinese-delegation-talking-about-large-scale-projects-with-president-martelly.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15258-haiti-reconstruction-signature-of-4-agreements-with-a-chinese-company.html for the execution of major projects in the departments of the North and North East including : the renovation and expansion of the road from Port au Prince to Malepasse; the road leading to Port-de-Paix and the construction of a cable car connecting Labadie to the Citadelle Laferrière. The remarks of the Ambassador have been confirmed by the Chinese entrepreneur Liang Jun that said his company was in the best disposals to invest in Haiti in the areas of energy, infrastructure and agriculture.
