Haiti - Elections D-5 : Address to the Nation of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti
To a few days of the elections day, in an address to the nation, the Episcopal Conference of Haiti (CEH) urged the candidates, the executive and the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) not to repeat on October 25, the errors of 9 August and to the population not to leave its future in the hands of any political decision makers.

Excerpt from the address to the Nation of CEH :
"[...] Dear voters, you undertand after the experience of August 9, 2015, how necessary it is to be more vigilant and patriotic. Do not let yourself lead and in no case and by anyone to scenes of violence, because violence is the worst enemy of democracy, development and our future. You have acquired the right to vote with hard struggle, do not leave you rob in any form or pretext. You can not let your future, that of your families and loved ones in the hands of any political decision makers. We must react against defeatism and decide to get involved in your city, your community, your communal section. In politics there is no messiah, do not believe the false promises with electoral target; promises that have no other purpose than to bamboozle you for your precious vote. If you are not promoter of change, there will be no real change.

Voting is a citizen and democratic act of the utmost importance in order to "bring to power of men and patriotic women, honest, blameless, not corrupt, incorruptible, mindful of the common good, who know how to combine individual aspirations and commitment to social justice, democracy, peace, development, respect and promotion of the transcendent dignity of the human person and the defense of life, the family, the weakest, the poorest.

Dear candidates, it is good to want to be elected to serve the common good and not to defend personal and partisan interests. This certainly request to surpass oneself, courage and generosity. In the electoral race, you could easily forget that you are still and always the citizens, of brothers and sisters, or friends. It is important to remember that the competitor in front is not an enemy to be defeated. The Nation is not a wild jungle, but a Motherland that needs all its children.

We invite you to make clean politics, healthy, good, rational, with great moral rigor, a spirit of sacrifice. With the upcoming elections we invite you to sign and to comply with a code conduct electoral code, and after results, to seal a pact of governability in the country [...]

Dear leaders of the executive and the CEP, please give all the necessary support for the next elections take place in a climate of peace and security. We urge you in the first place, you responsible of the Executive and of the Government to make every effort for this. We want the elections to be firm of nity of the Haitian Nation. We also urge you to ensure that the judiciary and the National Police of Haiti (PNH) take and fulfill their commitments with the Haitian people. These elections also offer the opportunity to the PNH to concretely apply his motto: Protect and Serve.

We strongly recommend you members of the CEP, to be vigilant to correct the abuses recorded during elections on 9 August. We recommend to pay more attention to the just claims of all candidates and voters, to practice further the dialogue with citizens and political parties. It is our desire and our wish that elections can effectively take place and thus open the way for the consolidation of democracy in Haiti for the greatest joy of a people thirsty of material well-being, economic, moral and spiritual [...]"
