Haiti - FLASH : Prohibitions for Elections 24/10/2015 07:21:32 Also, in a statement dated October 23, 2015, MICT invites nightclubs and performance halls to keep their doors closed, likewise, alcoholic beverage consumption in public places is prohibited in the same period, under the provisions of the electoral law. For its part, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) informs that according to Article 197 of the Electoral Decree, it is forbidden to "any person to organize or participating in a public demonstration in favor of one or more candidates, of of one or more parties or political groups on election day, to the announcement of the results." Any person infringing this provision shall incur a prison sentence ranging from six (6) months to one (1) year and a fine of ten thousand (10,000) to twenty-five thousand (25,000) gourdes. Similarly, under section 197.1 of the said Decree, it is prohibited to "any person to publish electoral prediction regarding the voting process or engage in the publication of electoral predictions made by anyone, on election day." Failure to comply with this provision is punishable by a fine of thirty thousand (30,000) to one hundred thousand (100,000) gourdes. The CEP advises the public in general that it look after the strict respect of these provisions and the law enforcement and justice are mobilized to respond promptly and strictly in accordance with the legislation in force at the slightest violation of Articles 197 and 197.1 of the Electoral Decree above-mentioned.
