Haiti - Politic : The Minister of Trade received US Ambassador 28/10/2015 10:21:44 They discussed for a little over an hour on various topics, including presidential, legislative and local elections, the emergence of Haiti, the Haitian government's decision to restrict 23 Dominican products to enter the national market by land. The Ambassador Mulrean said that the US government was preparing for the emergence of Haiti, while respecting the real potential of Haiti. The two men agreed to said that the Agribusiness was the most immediately exploitable sector in the country. According to Minister Day, the starting point of the will to help the development of this sector is the establishment in the country of large US agribusiness companies like Del Monte, Libbys, Tabasco, Dole Jumex. For Hervey Day "the presence of these companies is a guarantee for national production." They also discussed the steps taken by the Haitian government to ban 23 Dominican products to enter the national market by land but only by sea or air. The Minister told the US diplomat that "it had always been there a shortfall for Haiti on the border and that the Haitian government was obliged to take responsible measures to redress the situation." The Minister indicated that it was not a ban of these products in Haiti and that this measure was not final. However, he stressed that the Haitian government was going to take the time it took to bring order to its border. The northern region, recognized as important economic zone, was also on the agenda of discussions. Both men pledged for the rehabilitation and development of the port of Cap-Haitien, whose studies are being completed. Tenders will be announced in the year 2016 and the entire northern region will be highlighted. This meeting took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere where the concerns of one or the other have been met.
