Haiti - FLASH : Border clash between Haitian and Dominican 31/10/2015 08:13:45 The incident occurred specifically in the area Hoyo de Lima in Dajabón near the Massacre River, while Haitians were preparing to transport the goods on a truck and cross the river. According to one Haitian involved in this trade, the pepper was purchased 1,500 pesos/bag but, to cross the border, they had to pay 200 pesos per bag to two Dominican civilians, which front the Haitian refusal tore bags and threw the goods on the ground, which caused throwing stones on both sides of the protagonists. Members of the CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado en Seguridad Fronteriza Terrestre) went the scene to restore calm. Residents said that the collect of a fee (toll) by civilian or military Dominicans, is a common practice to allow goods to illegally pass the Massacre River... The truck for transporting hot pepper was taken to the unity of CESFRONT of Dajabón, where there is always retained. Recall that these illegal "toll operations" also exist in Haiti at the border, where buyers returning binational markets are fleeced by Haitian who seize the goods purchased (even those allowed by road) or destroy them if the person refuses to pay.
