Haiti - NOTICE : Invitation to the meeting of solidarity Haiti-Cuba «Antenor Firmin»
The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), is pleased to invite all Haitian friends of Haiti and from the Diaspora to the Third Edition of the Solidarity Meeting Cuba-Haiti "Antenor Firmin".

During this meeting, real space of mutual exchange between the two peoples, participants will visit of places of historical interest, social and cultural and will participate in exchanges on Cuban news topics, among others with representatives of different political and mass organizations in Cuba and with the descendants of Haitian community.

This meeting will take place from 4 to 11 January 2016 in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Holguin and Camaguey, the latter known as "The City of Haitian traditions". The stay includes 4 nights in Santiago and Camaguey respectively 3 nights in hotels "Rancho Club" and "Port au Prince".

The registration fee is US $ 400 (double room) including full board, transfer in / out and transportation for all program activities.

Interested persons undertake to participate in all program activities and respect the ICAP Regulations on events.

Registration is open until 1 December 2015.

The organizers ask participants to inform them of the date, time and flight number of their arrival in Cuba, as well as the passport number at the time of confirmation of participation to the following email addresses : alatina.caribe@icap.cu and yoandrita@gmail.com

The Institute will not accept any participation by 3 or 5 days.

Learn more about Anténor Firmin :
Born into a modest family of Cap-Haitien, Joseph Anténor Firmin makes his secondary education at the Lycee of his native town and began teaching at the age of 17. He works as an employee of a commercial house, teacher, and then school inspectors; passionate about policy, he founded in Cap Haitien the newspaper "Le messager du Nord" (The messenger of North).

Unsuccessful candidate for deputy in 1879, he was sent in 1883 to represent his country at the centenary celebrations of Bolivar. Refusing the position of Minister under the presidency of Lysius Félicité Salomon, he took exile in St. Thomas and then to Paris (1885) where he met Louis-Joseph Janvier and became a member of the Anthropological Society of Paris.

In 1885 he published "De l’égalité des races humaines", rehabilitation of the historic grandeur of the black race from Egypt to Haiti in reaction to the Essay on the Inequality of Human Races, of Gobineau (1854).

Anténor Firmin is a candidate for the presidency in the late of the nineteenth century. Minister of Florvil Hippolyte in 1891, he resists to the pressure of the United States, who wanted to install a military base in Haiti, to the Môle Saint-Nicolas. In 1905, his essay, "M. Roosevelt, président des États-Unis et la République d'Haïti" had a great impact, which predicted a U.S. military intervention, which in fact took place.
