Haiti - Economy : Haitians victims of economic injustice in the border markets
Monday in a press conference, the Network of Border Merchants (RMF) denounced several cases of abuse and injustice in weekly binational markets, against Haitian merchants...

Clergélie Elvariste, Vice-President of RMF, says noted an imbalance at taxes required to Haitian merchants to access various Dominican border markets, citing the access to the Elias Piña market which is 1,000 pesos for a Haitian and 150 pesos for a Dominican.

Furthermore she highlighted of differences in taxation for the same product category citing taxes levied on cosmetics 200 pesos for a Dominican merchant and 500 pesos for a Haitian merchant.

About the denial of entry by land, of 23 Dominican products, on Haitian soil decided by the Government of Haiti since October 1, 2015 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15156-haiti-notice-import-ban-by-road-of-certain-products-from-dr.html Ms. Lovely François, Secretary of RMF believes that this decision "only impoverish small Haitian merchants," and call the Haitian authorities to find an agreement with their Dominican counterparts, to find a solution to this problem.

Recall that the Network of Border Merchants, composed of 9 committees was established in 2013 and aims to denounce and combat the multiple repeated human rights violations against Haitian merchants in the border binational markets.
