Haiti - Elections : Proposals of the Episcopal Commission to save the electoral process 01/12/2015 12:06:55

At their 120th Ordinary Plenary Assembly in Lilavois (Croix-des-Bouquets) the Catholic Bishops of the Church of Haiti of the Episcopal Commission "Justice and Peace", which deployed 1,236 observers in the 10 departments in the elections October 25 have "found, along with other observing bodies that glaring irregularities and fraud from various sources marred the elections in several places," stressing that it is "a recurrent deviance which has become almost concomitantly to the elections in the country, affecting both the voters, staff of voting centers and polling stations, observers, representatives electoral judges or foreign executives. It is unacceptable whenever it surfaced. Today more than ever we condemn it with the utmost rigor."
In order to save the electoral process and safeguard the supreme good of the Nation in present circumstances the Catholic Bishops of the Church in Haiti, proposes inter alia :
- That the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) make the truth about what really happened and who discredited results;
- That there is more transparency in the electoral machine in general, and especially at the Tabulation Center;
- That the CEP applies electoral law impartially, to lend credibility to the process;
- That safe markup be posed to avoid the same mistakes recur;
- That the Government keeps its neutrality it deserves and whose depend its responsibility vis-a-vis the nation,its honor in the present and the future;
- The Haitian National Police (PNH) is sticking to its apolitical character and act in accordance with ethical principles and citizens that are inculcated to it;
- That candidates shortlisted and Heads of political parties are capable of overcoming, of national revival and greatness of soul that can lead them to a federal expertise and a cooperative vision;
- That elected before entering officially in function, can gather around the same table to determine, by mutual agreement, a governability pact with highly qualified facilitators.
