Haiti - Health : Laying the foundation stone of the new morgue of the HUEH
Tuesday the First Lady Sophia Martelly, accompanied by Florence Duperval Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population, proceeded to the ceremony of laying the first stone of the construction of the new morgue of the Hospital of the State University of Haiti (HUEH) located in Caradeux commune of Tabarre.

This new infrastructure of the HUEH will be divided into two branches: one technical and one administrative. Note that the funds (over 33 million gourdes) will come from the Treasury, through the good offices of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) and Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). The construction period will last six months.

In the presence of the Mayor of Tabarre Vladimir Gouin, of the Departmental Delegate, Carla Clesca, the elected deputy of Tabarre, Caleb Desrameaux, the Director General of the Hospital of the UEH, Dr Maurice Mainvil Fils and senior managers in the public service, the First Lady stressed the importance of the construction of the morgue, which is an important link in the chain of public health management. "The epidemiology, criminal law, vocational training, research, are all fields that will benefit from the advantages of a modern morgue meeting the current standards of preservation of corpses [...] This construction project is particularly dear to my heart because everyone, even dead we are entitled to respect and dignity," reiterating its commitment to supporting as far as possible, the institutions working incessantly for strengthening our capabilities and our health system .

The Minister Guillaume insisted on building security to prevent sabotage often suffered by public morgues in Haiti stating "It will also be necessary to avoid the use of public morgue for private purposes".

Dr Maurice Mainvil Fils welcomed the initiative and stressed its importance within an entity like General Hospital that is one of the largest hospitals in the country of reference, either for the purposes of forensic science that for the training of medical professionals and medical research.

Recall that the primary function of the National Morgue will be of serving as depot for the preservation of corpses, the time for families to arrange funerals, or in a few cases, before making a scientific autopsy to determine the cause of an unexplained death.
