Haiti - Culture : First of the show «De ville en ville» 13/12/2015 11:05:35 This initiative aimed at pay tribute to the Haitian writers, including to Jacques Roumain, Haitian author of the famous novel "Gouverneurs de la rosée", is part of a national school tour, organized by the Workshop Frankétienne. Supported by the Program "A Livres Ouverts" of the organization "VIE Jeunes", the show focuses on two main artistic creations : "Manuel, O Vanyan gason !", a staged reading of the text "Gouverneurs de la rosée" and "La Traversée", of adaptation of the text "Bois d’ébène" of Jacques Roumain making a panoramic projection on the great periods of the history of Haiti. The G5 Collective (slams - poems and music education) also charmed the audience with several presentations including "Dialogue imaginaire avec Compère Général Soleil", a text made from the book titles produced exclusively in French by major iconic figuresof the Haitian literature and "Pwezi lang ak" (Poetry and language), a text made from the book titles produced exclusively in Creole by large Haitian literary iconic figures, and finally "Pwovèb lakay" (proverbs from home) a text giving off a deep reflection from the Haitian proverbs. Learn more about Jacques Roumain : The writer and communist politician, Jacques Roumain, (1907-1944), born June 4, 1907, in Port-au-Prince into a wealthy family, attended Catholic schools (St. Louis de Gonzague institution in particular) and later he continued his studies in several European countries. Back in Haiti at age 20, he co-founded the "La Revue Indigène". Very active in the struggle against the US occupation of Haiti (1915-1934), he is the founder (1934) of the workers and Haitian Communist movement one of the reason why it is often arrested and was finally forced exile by President Sténio Vincent. During his years in exile, Roumain work and became friends with many writers and poets of his time. The majority of his work expresses the frustration and rage of a people that has been trampled for centuries including "Les Fantoches", "La Montagne ensorcelée" and "Gouverneur de la rosée".
