Haiti - FLASH : A senator resigns from the Special Commission
Friday, Sen. Carl Murat Cantave (Artibonite) member of the special bicameral commission responsible for preparing the election of the provisional President of the Republic of Haiti, visibly disagreeing with the allegiance of the majority of members of the Commission in the case of a man whose election according to him "will expose the country to an unprecedented crisis" has resigned in a letter to the Senate dated 12 February 2016.

Resignation letter of Senator Cantave :

"[...] Mr. President,

This letter is to give you my resignation as member of the special bicameral commission responsible for preparing the election of the President of the Republic.

This decision is motivated by the shameful allegiance of the majority of members of the Commission in the case of a man whose election will denigrate not only the parliamentary institution but also expose the country to an unprecedented crisis : the crisis of the after crisis

I spent 52 years to build my image, shape my reputation, I can not in one day, in an act destroying many constructive acts that I have so far posed and which are my reason for living.

I'm attached to no wealth, to no material possessions, to any kind of relationship, to any honor, any position except the one that will make me grow in the eyes of the Haitian people and to my electorate.

Not wanting to be judged by the rigor of history even less expose myself to its verdict, I draw my reverence and remains available to the Haitian people of which I am a worthy and faithful servant.

Carl Murat Cantave
Senator of the Artibonite"
