In a note, the President a.i. Jocelerme Privert said having "learned with consternation the damage caused by the earthquake occurred in Ecuador on the evening of Saturday, April 16, 2016 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-17188-haiti-flash-78-earthquake-in-ecuador-where-about-30-000-haitians-live.html This disaster, having caused hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries [413 dead and over 2,600 injured], just throw the grief and desolation within Ecuadorian families.

On the occasion of this sad event, the Head of State present, on behalf of the Government and people of Haiti, his sincere condolences to Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.

Ecuador has always been a country whose the active solidarity and contribution in Haiti's reconstruction effort are indisputable.

The President of the Republic, while wishing to see Ecuador recover quickly transmit his sympathies to relatives of victims, and gives the guarantee that Haiti remains in solidarity to the Ecuadorian people on the occasion of this tragedy."
