Haiti - Weather : Next hurricane season, far from reassuring
While the hurricane season will officially begin on June 1, 2016, the Haitian government and its partners are continuing preparation efforts and maintain vigilance because of weather forecasts far from reassuring.

Experts from the University of the State of Colorado (United States) have planned a season of hurricanes much more active than in 2015 when we had recorded only the passage of Hurricane Erika. In 2016, US experts predict a total of 12 named storms and 5 hurricanes, including 2 major expected this season.

The scenario of the 2016 hurricane season retained for Haiti, considering that about 500,000 people could be affected in the country by floods and other effects of hydro-meteorological systems. The departments of North, Northwest, Artibonite and West are particularly vulnerable to heavy rains, winds, floods and landslides.

As part of the preparation activities, the national risk management system is in the process of implementing a number of activities to mitigate and limit the damage face the threat of the next active season. These include the updating of the contingency plan, of the contingency stock and list of shelters.
