Haiti - Security : The PNH apologized to Senator Jean Renel Sénatus 06/07/2016 09:44:19 The rumor machine has quickly turned on, relayed by many media, suggesting that the police were looking for Guy Philippe, that it believed in the vehicle of Senator... Marc-André Cadostin, the Departmental Director of the South police downplayed the scope of the incident, noting that the police officers have let the vehicle go after realizing that a Senator in function was there. Senator Sénatus said it was a political attack and promised that he will give a political response to this incident. Michel-Ange Gédéon, the Director General a.i. in a letter to Senator quickly apologized on behalf to the National Police for this unfortunate incident. Note that in this correspondence the Commissioner Gédéon does not mention that the police were looking for Guy Philippe, speaking only of a simple routine check. Letter from the Director General of the PNH : "Port-au-Prince, July 5, 2016 Me Jean Renel Sénatus Senator of the Republic In its offices.- Honorable Senator, The General Directorate of the National Police of Haiti, beyond the words, address you its incere regret for the unfortunate incident that occurred on the morning of Monday, July 4 at the entrance of the city of Les Cayes and in which police reportedly asked you to get off your vehicle for a routine check, y surrounding by disproportionate defensive measures. Without wishing to seek false pretenses, this incident comes at a time when police are constantly attacked and killed, where attacks with strong odor of terrorism are growing. A vehicle with tinted glass with rental plates aroused suspicion among them, what perhaps does not give them the time to identify your august person. However, the National Police of Haiti recognizes that police behavior towards you was inappropriate under the Constitution and laws of the Republic. Therefore, Honorable Senator, it decides to make honorable amends. It also hopes that this unfortunate incident will not tarnish the good work climate and the fraternal bonds between between Parliament and the Directorate General of the PNH for the happiness of the common homeland. Also it promises to make every effort to erase the sad memory of the collective memory. By reiterating you my apologies, the PNH Directorate General ask you to believe, Honorable Senator, to its respectful sentiments. Michel Ange Gédéon Director General a.i." SL/ HaitiLibre
