Haiti - Economy : Agribusiness deficit of over $900M 08/07/2016 12:22:36 In 2015, Haiti imported $ 955 million worth of food products (+ 30% compared to 2014) while at the same Haiti time exported only 29.41 million (+ 4.8% compared to 2014) of food product which 95% involved only four products: cocoa, coffee, mango and lobster. This 30% increase in the amount of imports is mainly due to the drought which raged from 2009 to 2015 (+ 13.6% on average) and demographics of the population has increasing steadily. Figures that should concern investors, which, however, are reluctant face the socio-political situation, constraints and the alarming insecurity prevailing in Haiti beyond the statements of a government that want to be reassuring but that fails to convince. In response, the State with strong agricultural policy is necessary, however, the government succeed and the situation does not change significantly to reverse this trend. TB/ HaitiLibre
