Haiti - Cholera : 10 Communes in Red Alert
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) has presented to the press the evolution of the cholera epidemic in Haiti [786,530 contaminated and 9,361 people dead since 2010. Souce Ministry]

From 1 to June 30, 2016, 3,547 people have been infected, of these, 2,948 were hospitalized, 19 institutional deaths and 5 community eaths recorded.

From 1 to 16 July 2016, the beginning of the hurricane season, 977 cases were received in specialized centers, 805 cases have been hospitalized, 6 institutional deaths and 3 community deaths identified.

Katilla Peter, Head of the alert service and response of the epidemiological directorate, laboratory and research at the Ministry of Public Health and Population, informed that 10 communes in the departments of Centre and West are currently in a state of red alert, they are : Belladère, Hinche, Mirebalais, Boucan-Carré, Lascahobas, Tomonde, Port-au-Prince, Carrefour, Tabarre and Gressier.

Dr. Donald François national coordinator of the fight against cholera has sounded the alarm for a potential increase in cholera cases during the hurricane season and invited the population to strictly observe the principles of hygiene such as : hand washing, use water treated with chlorine products and wash fruits and vegetables before consumption, fundamental and effective rules in the fight against the disease. Recalling that in the event of contamination, you should go immediately to a health center for a rapid care.
