Haiti - Literacy : Haiti will use a Dominican program as model
Thursday, the Directorate General of Special Programs of the Dominican President Danilo Medina received a Haitian delegation, headed by Brutus Paula Julien, Secretary of State of Literacy Plan.

Paula Brutus, accompanied by 7 Haitian technicians came to express their interest to know the guidelines and the progress of the national literacy plan, "Quisqueya Aprende Contigo" in order to take this plan as a model for literacy of people over 15 years.

During a working meeting, the Dominicans presented to the Haitian delegation the Strategy of the Dominican Government "Quisqueya Sin Miseria" and the 3 social programs that composes it "Quisqueya Aprende Contigo", "Quisqueya Empieza Contigo" and "Todos Somos Quisqueya".

The presentation on the various aspects of the implementation and results of the program "Quisqueya Aprende Contigo" was was made by Luis Holguin-Veras, the Director of the plan, which, in his speech stressed that this program was going well beyond literacy, adding thathe especially gave access to productive activities with a technical or vocational training and educational continuity with the "Educación Básica y Flexible" program.

Paula Brutus declared "We are aware that Haiti can not solve alone the scourge of illiteracy in our country, this is what motivated us to move towards this plan to establish cooperation, sharing our vision and strengthen solidarity between our two countries for literacy."

After the presentation of the strategy, programs and exchanges between the various stakeholders, a visit with the Haitian delegation was organized in one of the learning centers functioning at Km 11 of the Duarte highway, where many of the beneficiaries are of Haitian origin and regularized in the Dominican Republi

Note that the literacy plan put forward by Haiti will be implemented for the 2016-2021 period and will be for illiterate people aged 16 to 50 years. The program currently has a financial and logistical support among others from UNESCO, FAO, the Union of African States and the Cuban Government.
