Haiti - Rio 2016 : D-3, the Haitian Olympic Committee seeking funds in urgency...
Thursday, July 28, to 8 days of the pening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the Haitian government has finally decided to grant the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH), a meager 4.5 million gourdes on the planned initial budget of 16 million gourdes.

Recall that the COH filed deposited this budget in the hands of Yves Romain Bastien, Minister of Economy and Finance and Abel Nazaire, Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, which had both indicated do not have the funds for preparation, travel and stay of our 10 selected Haitian athletes and their technical staff in Rio 2016, in Brazil.

Saturday, 7 days before the opening of the games, Hans Larsen, President of the COH was still looking in urgency from the private sector, another 4 million gourdes minimum to cover other expenses and repay debts caused by advances.

While our Dominican neighbor has awarded $18 million to its Olympic Committee, Haiti does not do honor to the incredible efforts of our 10 athletes who have qualified to try to float our bicolor on an Olympic podium, by providing funding of just over 70,000 US dollars.
