Haiti - Elections : Canada could not recognize the results...
Following the contested election results in Haiti and the situation of violence prevailing in the country, Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada declared Wednesday to the press :

"Canada is concerned with the events taking place following the release of provisional results of the election in Haiti That seriously calls in question the recognition [of the elections] if we do not see a progress, but especially the respect of the electoral process", warned Mr. Cannon.

"We continue to monitor developments closely and urge all political actors to address irregularities in accordance with Haitian electoral law.

"We also urge political actors to fulfill their responsibilities in the interest of the population, and demonstrate a firm commitment to peace, democratic principles and the integrity of the electoral process.

"Canada calls on all political actors to prioritize peace and the interests of the population, as well as to renew calls for restraint."

Note: Although relayed in the Canadian press, the the warning of the Minister That seriously calls in question the recognition [of the elections] if we do not see a progress, but especially the respect of the electoral process has been removed from the final press release from the Canadian government...
