Haiti - Post-Matthew : Global resumption of School activities not before January 2017
In addition to the distribution of school kits, uniforms, textbooks to students of 1st and 2nd cycles of fundamentals and the release of funds for the payment of private schools involved in the Universal, Compulsory and Compulsory Education Program (PSUGO) as well as teachers of the public sector, giving priority to the affected areas, near two and a half months after the passage of Hurricane Matthew on Haiti and despite several announced dates for school resumption in the affected areas, the total resumption of school activities is still not effective.

The Ministry of Education informs that 216 schools have been rehabilitated so far, the work of 97 schools is nearing completion and 57 new projects will soon be launched. For schools totally destroyed, tarpaulins and/or tents were erected pending the reconstruction of schools.

The Ministry indicates that it is continuing to seek financial resources from stakeholders and partners to continue work on all affected schools in order to allowing a global resumption of School activities in January 2017...
