Haiti - FLASH : Jovenel Moïse chosen Dr. Jack Guy Lafontant as Prime Minister
"After a second round of consultations with the presidents of both Houses, I chose Dr. Jack Guy Lafontant as Prime Minister," it's in these words that the President of the Republic Jovenel Moïse announced his choice.

Jack Guy Lafontant, 56, married and father of three children, unknown to the political scene, has been pursuing his medical career for thirty years. He is the president of the Rotary Club of Petion-Ville since July 2016. He is an internist and gastroenterologist, professor of gastroenterology at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the State University of Haiti (UEH) and at the University of Notre Dame of Haiti (UNDH) and a member of the American College of Gastroenterology.

The next step for the Prime Minister chosen will be Article 158 of the Constitution stipulating "The Prime Minister in agreement with the President chooses the members of his Cabinet and presents himself before the Parliament in order to obtain a vote of confidence on his policy statement. The vote is held by public vote and with an absolute majority of each of the two (2) Chambers. In the case of a vote of no confidence by one of the two (2) Chambers, the procedure starts again."

"We do not comment because the president insisted for it to be Jack Guy Lafontant. We will see in the Assembly," réacted Senator Youri Latortue.

On his side the Deputy Gary Bodeau declares "The President of the Republic made his choice. It is up to the Prime Minister-Designate to find a majority to have his general policy ratified. He needs 60 deputies and 16 senators."
