Haiti - Culture : The presidential couple officially opens the 2017 National Carnival 27/02/2017 07:58:40
In the presence of members of the Municipal Council, Deputy of Cayes, Clauvy Robas, members of the Committee, the team of designers involved in costume making and other members of the community, the Head of State declared Carnival is a way for me to witness to the people of the South the solidarity and their courage after the passage of Hurricane Matthew [...] The Haitian carnival is an exceptional moment when all the sons of Haiti, all the social strata combined, as well as the foreign tourists, mix. This is the time to show the world what we have best at home," inviting the Haitians to unite their strength, to work in love, mutual respect, with honor and sincerity, to build a stronger country before adding "One of our greatest pride is our culture. We must protect it. Carnival presents an important part of our culture. Ayibobo for artists, for our culture. Ayibobo for Haiti." President Moïse then greeted Queen Clermina Platel and King Wildy Charles of the National Carnival, as well as all the young people chosen by the Carnival Committee, convinced that they have become ambassadors of the Cayenne youth and that they must remain for it of models. In his speech, Deputy Clauvy Robas congratulated the Head of State who, through this carnival, wanted to show his solidarity with the people of the South "We dance, we solidarize, and also realize a little bit of money." For his part, Mayor Fortuné thanked the President of the Republic for choosing his commune to organize the national carnival festivities and the First Lady for her entire contribution to the success of the carnival of children this year. He also congratulated all those who helped make the event possible, including the citizens of the city, the private sector, State partner institutions, the hotel sector of the South and the artistic and cultural sector. On this first fat day, 23 queens and 18 kings paraded on allegorical floats, several dozen disguised groups and walking bands and twenty musical floats animated the first fat day in Les Cayes for the pleasure of several dozen thousands of carnavaliers...
