4:53 pm an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale has plunged Haiti into hell... 35 seconds later... the capital of Port-au-Prince was destroyed over 75%. Today it is estimated that the number of dead could rise 300.0000 dead "as many" injuries and than 2.3 million people were displaced, more than a million live still in camps or makeshift shelters. Yesterday as now, nothing has really changed... Port-au-Prince is a monument of ruins which seems to have escaped to the time...




Haiti January 12, 2010 :
"Downtown of Port-au-Prince is destroyed is a real disaster" declared to AFP, a resident who walked several kilometers to return to his home amid scenes of panic.

An AP reporter saw the rubble of the Hospital of Petionville, near Port-au-Prince, while a U.S. official in visit, testified on his side, he saw houses collapsed into a ravine. "Everyone is completely terrified and in shock" told Henry Bahn, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, "the sky is gray of dust". "We saw many bodies in the streets and on the sidewalks, which were hit by debris," commented Philip Crowley, the spokesman from the U.S. State Department. According to witnesses, the courthouse, the buildings of the Ministries of Interior, Public Health, the Office of the Revenue (DGI) fell.

Few hours after the earthquake, the U.S. president has offered the assistance of the United States to Haiti "My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this earthquake," said Barack Obama "We are monitoring the situation closely and we stand ready to rescue the people of Haiti."

Gérald Tremblay, Mayor of Montreal, dismayed and saddened by the devastating effects on the population of Port-au-Prince in Haiti said in the evening "My thoughts are with the victims of the Haitian capital and families who are established in Montreal and who must wonder what is happening given the limited information available"

Michaëlle Jean, then Governor General of Canada under the influence of emotion said follow with "great attention and concern the first reports on the earthquake of considerable strength, which struck Haiti and that was felt also elsewhere in the region [...] I wish that Haitians know they are not alone and that Canadians will respond to this emergency."

In France the Minister of Foreign Affairs said "In these dramatic moments, France expresses its solidarity with the Republic of Haiti and send a strong testimony of sympathy and solidarity for the Haitian people..."

Haiti January 13, 2010 :
The day after the terrible disaster, Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France has expressed its "dismay" and his "profound emotion", stating that France hurry "detachments of civil security and a platoon of gendarmes" for relief work...

Joyandet, Secretary of State for Cooperation evoked then "We are told that the hotel Le Montana would have collapsed. It said there were 300 people in it and that only 100 would be emerged, which worries us many"

Haitian President René Préval said on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, to the U.S. daily Miami Herald that he feared that earthquake has claimed thousands of lives. He also urged the international community for help. Haitian literary scene has lost a great man, Georges Anglade and his wife were killed in the earthquake. The haitian author was in Port-au-Prince on the occasion of the festival "Étonnants Voyageurs" which was to take place the January 14 to 17.

Haiti January 14, 2010 :
Residents of Port-au-Prince in anger blocked Thursday some streets of the capital with corpses. They protest against delays in emergency humanitarian aid, reported a witness. Shaul Schwarz, a photographer for Time magazine, said he saw at least two blocked streets with corpses of victims of the powerful earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday. "They [the residents] start blocking the streets with bodies, it goes wrong here, people are tired of not getting help..."

Haiti January 17, 2010 :
The authorities now speak of 50.000 to 100.000 dead. Port-au-Prince is the prey of looters, many are part of gangs of Cité Soleil, In addition to the thousands of detainees escaped during the earthquake that also roam in the streets and sow terror. Haiti January 23, 2010 :
Given the deterioration of the social climate, Pope Benedict XVI has called for calm in the streets of Haiti on Saturday so that aid can reach the victims of the earthquake.
