Haiti - Tourism : 61st UNWTO meeting, positive advances for Haiti
Monday, Emilie Jessy Menos, Minister of Tourism, presented at a press conference the positive results of her participation in the 61st Statutory Meeting of the Commission of the Americas of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) which ended Sunday in El Salvador in Honduras.

"The participation of Haiti has allowed us to strengthen our links with other destinations in the Caribbean and to focus on the need to work on multi-destination between the different Caribbean countries," declared Minister Menos.

At the end of the conference, Minister Menos undertook to create a Tourism Satellite Account (CST) to collect periodic statistical data, monitor progress, assess impact, promote results-based management and to highlight issues of strategic importance, a project to be financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

In addition, the Minister held several meetings with other countries to reassure investors that Haiti is still open to investment. In this regard, a meeting was also held with the outgoing Secretary General of the UNWTO, Mr. Taleb Rifai, who reaffirmed his support for strengthening the tourism sector in Haiti.

On the sidelines of the mission, the Haitian delegation participated in technical visits to major innovative tourism projects. Especially in El Salvador, a beach hotel renovation project, and an eco-tourist surf project that could be applied according to the Minister in our coastal cities of the South.

At the same time, the Minister met with her Argentinian counterpart, Gustavo Santos, who will support the city twinning project of Saint-Marc with the city of La Plata, Argentina.
