Haiti - Politics : Tabling of Government actions
Monday, in accordance with constitutional prescriptions, Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, accompanied by his Cabinet Minister, presented the balance sheet of the actions of the Government before the National Assembly, on the occasion of the opening of the 2nd legislative year 2017.

In his speech for the occasion the Head of Government o present an executive summary of this report.

"Today, it is with gravity and deep commitment that we are front the elected representatives of the people to respond to this constitutional requirement [...] Under the leadership of the President, the Government began by committing policies for which it was installed. During these first months, the Government laid the foundations for the country's profound transformation taking into account the conjunctural elements.

[...] The executive has an agreement with the Parliament to vote a legislative agenda on the institutional framework, the modernization of the commercial code.

[...] The country's financial and socio-economic situation has been complicated by Hurricane Matthew, which has severely decreased agricultural production. Inflation reached 14.3% in March 2017 and the depreciation of the gourde was 42.3% over two years [...] the situation was also marked by the reduction in fuel subsidies, which led to a lack to earn of 11 billion gourdes.

[...] Along with the increase in fuel prices, the Government is considering strengthening the social protection system. These measures concern access to care, the promotion of a universal, compulsory health insurance system, the minimum income of solidarity.

[...] We have paid more than 190 million Gourdes of school fees owed to national schools, and more than 77 million for the Universal Free and Compulsory Education Program (PSUGO). The payment of 428 teachers from the PSUGO and the PRONEC for more than 59 million Gdes is under way [...] 2,800 teachers appointed for 3 years will soon receive their salary from the vote of the amending budget.

[...] The rationalization of state spending, measures against waste, corruption and smuggling are beginning to bear fruit.

[...] Public health and National Education will play a prominent role in our interventions.

[...] The Government will continue its interventions in the agricultural sector as part of the caravan of change in the Great South.

[...] The Government took the initiative to make vote the 3 bills on higher education and governance of Haitian universities [...] In accordance with the President's vision, I took the initiative to establish a National Center for University Works.

[...] Every effort is made to strengthen and revitalize our justice system, in order to eradicate land insecurity and spoliation.

[...] The government is in the process of solving the problems of passport production and delivery.

[...] Provisions are being made to facilitate the extension of ICTs by access to 2 new optical fibers in the North and Grand'Anse."
