Haiti - Literature : Opening of the Book Fair
The 23rd edition of the Book Fair opens on Thursday (15 and 16 June 2017) in the gardens of the Museum of the National Haitian Pantheon (MUPANAH). Tuesday at the National Palace, Jovenel Moïse, received writers, publishers, actors in the book chain and the organizers of Livres en Folie, during a luncheon offered in their honor. In the presence, among others of Minister of Culture Limond Toussaint, the Head of State hailed the great community of Haitian writers, the two authors guests of honor of this 2017 edition: Mrs. Odette Roy Fombrun who celebrated his centenary on Tuesday and the young Makenzy Orcel.

"I do not hide the pleasure of meeting you today a few days before the launch of the largest Haitian book fair (nearly 2,400 titles available) that brings together all ages, all social strata and all the generations. It is the fruit of a desire to unite and the expression of a technical and managerial know-how," declared Moïse.

Attentive to the evolution of our literary world, President Moïse paid a tribute to Dieudonné Fardin, published by Fardin, a living monument of Haitian letters. With great enthusiasm, he encouraged greater production in the Creole language, while asking the Government to offer all possible guidance to the "Akademi Kreyòl".

Note that during this book fair 145 authors will be signing. For this event the avenue de la Liberté (which passes in front of the MUPANAH) will be closed and authorized exclusively as parking for organizers and authors. The extension of Oswald Durand street will also be closed up to Rue St Honore. All the rest of the Champ de Mars will be secured and available to park visitors' vehicles. The PNH and the other entities will provide control points at streets Capois, Magloire Ambroise, Magny, etc...

Recall that on June 11, the fair started on the Internet for those who can not make the trip. They can make their purchases online until next Sunday on www.livresenfolie.com and www.unibankhaiti.com

On Thursday and Friday, those who reside in the 14 provincial cities where Unibank is present, including La Gonâve, will also be able to participate in the fair (50% discount on purchases made with the Unicarte).

Finally, during these two days, he will also have a program "Port-au-Prince, book capital", which consists of abandoning on a public bench, in the bank, in a supermarket, or elsewhere a book you have liked or not to be adopted by another reader.

Please note that due to this event, the MUPANAH will be closed on Thursday and Friday 16 June. The Museum's normal activities will resume on Saturday from 10:00 a.m.
