Haiti - Security : Drug Abuse in the Country
This Monday 26 June brings back the celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Lener Renauld, Coordinator of the National Commission for the Fight Against Drugs (CONALD), said that the Commission did not intend to give any pomp to this day [...] if not to observe a meditation halt, to which we invite everyone, in order to counter, as far as possible, the overwhelming consequences that strangle the Haitian youth."

"Concerned by the appalling observation of the abuse of drugs, in our schools, our universities, in the homes as in the streets, the CONALD want to be nevertheless reassuring to the extent to give to this fight, in accordance with the priorities established by the Head of State and in accordance with the general policy of the Government," underlines Lener Renauld.

On this day, the Commission welcomes the efforts of the law enforcement organs and the structures of supervision and reintegration, which work in the name of shared responsibility, to stem the scourge of drugs and calls for the involvement of Haitian society, with a view to a citizen mobilization for a solidary and responsible contribution.

It should be recalled that the World Drug Report (2017), published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), highlights new forms of correlation between the global cycle of drug trafficking, cybercrime and terrorism.

Lener Renauld reiterated to CONALD's international partners that Haiti will not be left behind and will actively commit itself in accordance with agreements on combating drugs, money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
