Haiti - Elections : Haiti risks losing the support of the United States...

Haiti risks losing the support of the United States and the international community if the country does not quickly develop a democratic government "We urge the Haitian authorities to outline a very clear way forward that will lead promptly to the inauguration of a democratically elected government [...] that represents the will of the Haitian people" declared today Susan Rice, US ambassador to the United Nations stating that this must be accompanied of a "timely timetable for the second round and inauguration of a new government"...

Susan Rice said that Haiti should implement the recommendations made by international observers, that the candidate supported by President René Préval (Jude Célestin, INITE) should be excluded from the second round of the presidential election...

For its part, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) which received the report of experts of the Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) promised that the recommendations will be considered in the technical realization of the second round, just like the recommendations regarding the possible change of position in the ranking of 2nd and 3rd candidates within the framework of the challenges phase.

Pending the arrival of the legal experts from the OAS, expected this week, the CEP completes the implementation of the Departmental Electoral Challenges Office (BCED) and the National Electoral Challenges Office (BCED) for the treatment of challenges.

Under reserve, according to sources close to the CEP, which could not be confirmed, the final results of the first round, and the timing of the second round, should be published before the end of the month...
