Haiti - Reconstruction : An original solution
CAN-DO (Compassion into Action Network – Direct Outcome Organization), has officially launched the project Domes Haiti with the opening of a large manufacturing plant (1) of fiberglass dome. These structures are ideal for medical clinics, schools, dormitories, administrative offices and housing. They have a life expectancy of more than 25 years, resist fire, rain and winds up to 130 miles per hour and are manufactured and assembled in Haiti by a local workforce by Composites Karayib.

Eric Klein, founder of CAN-DO explains that through the project Domes Haiti, we create jobs and offer safe and solid structures in Haiti. Most importantly, we’re doing it without "the red tape – by getting out on the ground, talking to the people, and making things happen that have a measurable and positive impact at the community level."

For example, a dome Simplex which measures 18 by 25 feet (35 m2) can be constructed in less than half an hour by two semi-skilled workers. Thanks to this project says Eric Klein, we offer an affordable solution that can be considered transitory, but that is durable and comfortable to meet long term needs in Haiti. Composites Karayib's fiberglass domes are easily expandable and transportable, and can also can be disassembled and repurposed for use elsewhere should permanent structures or more suitable locations become available.

CAN-DO has begun to contact the mayors to determine their interest in community centers, offices, classrooms or other needs. "based on initial positive feedback, hopes to confirm participation by The National Leadership Conference of Haitian Mayors (NLCHM) in the near future" says founder.
